Newcastle looked set to record their second successive win – thanks to Jack Colback’s late strike – until Peter Crouch dealt a sucker punch in the dying embers of the game. Here are the player ratings from the disappointing draw at St James’ Park:
Tim Krul – 6
Made several superb saves to prevent Walters and Diouf from breaking the deadlock, but was left stranded for Peter Crouch’s late leveller which lobbed the Dutchman.
Daryl Janmaat – 7
Good all round performance by Daryl. Defended well and kept Stoke at bay. When going forward, the Dutchman caused a significant threat all afternoon.
Mike Williamson – 5
After his impressive performance at Hull, Mike was back to normal against Stoke. Caught out several times, only to be rescued by his teammates.
Fabricio Coloccini – 6
Kept Walters’ threat muted all game, in what was a solid defensive performance from the captain.
Massadio Haïdara – 6
Picked up where he left off. Brilliant all round for the first-half, getting forward and causing problems at every opportunity, but failed to produce more of the same after the break.
Jack Colback – 7
Hardly put a foot wrong all game but should have seen red for a second bookable offence just prior to scoring the opener.
Vurnon Anita – 5
Managed to stem the flow of Stoke’s attacks all afternoon. Other than that, he failed to play any significant part in the game, with Stoke bossing the central midfield area.
Remy Cabella – 7
Our brightest spark, in what was a relatively mundane Newcastle performance. Much like last week, his energy and flair caused problems all afternoon. “Why was he subbed?” was the question on everybody’s lips as the Frenchman trudged towards the fourth official.
Moussa Sissoko – 6
The Frenchman failed to dominate the midfield, once again, but another decent all-round performance nonetheless.
Sammy Ameobi – 6
He, and Haidara, created several chances down the left flank in the first half but, like his teammate, Sammy faded in the second half.
Ayoze Perez – 6
The young Spaniard came close on several occasions but failed to capitalise. Stoke’s size and physicality kept Ayoze out of the game for the most part.
Papiss Cisse – SUB
Came off the bench and, with limited service, proved a threat to Stoke’s defence.
Gabriel Obertan – SUB
The Frenchman gave Newcastle a new lease of life when he came on in the 69th minute, with his pace and energy. Although, Gabriel has been made to rue his missed chance to extend Newcastle’s lead, prior to Stoke’s equaliser, following a swift piece of counter-attacking play.
Mehdi Abeid – SUB
Once again, entered the fray in the dying embers of the game and failed to make an impact. Carver then publicly criticised the Algerian’s 4 minute cameo.
