Algeria have called up striker Islam Slimani ahead of their international friendly matches, much to the frustration of Rafa Benitez and all those associated with Newcastle.
The national team’s manager Rabah Madjer has not yet confirmed what part Slimani will play in the upcoming games and despite Benitez’s frustration, he has admitted he is powerless in the situation, and can only hope that his new striker doesn’t aggravate or worsen any injury.

According to the reports from Algeria, Slimani took part in a regular training session, although the Newcastle striker took it easy due to his current fitness issues.
Since signing for the Magpies in January, the 29-year-old is yet to make an appearance due to an ongoing injury but the fans and manager will be hoping their man isn’t pushed too hard whilst on duty for Algeria.
Newcastle are currently four points clear from the drop zone and will be hoping that Slimani is ready soon to help continue their bid for survival.
