Newcastle striker promises he will fight for his place in the side
Newcastle United loanee Islam Slimani has vowed that he will fight to earn his place in the team following his loan move from Leicester City last month, as reported by Goal.
The Algerian international is currently out injured but is working his way back to full fitness and is yet to make his debut for the club since the move.
He made the move in the hope of gaining a regular amount of first-team football – something which he wasn’t getting at his parent club Leicester. Slimani is now keen to keep Newcastle in the Premier League.
He made just 17 appearances for the Foxes prior to his move, with many of them coming from the bench but he did register five goals for the club this season. Four of them came in the Foxes run to the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.
The Newcastle striker spoke about the hopes that he has for when he returns to fitness.
I like to play regularly. That’s what my aim is and that’s what I have always wanted to do. I am going to fight for my place and be able to play as much as possible. Football is my passion and I want to show what I can do.
Slimani added:
No matter who scores the most important thing is to win. Obviously, I want to get goals as quickly as possible but points come first. I played in Portugal first and I learned so much out there. It put me in good stead to come and play in the Premier League and I now feel ready.
