Newcastle had £7m bid for Rodrigues turned down
Newcastle United reportedly returned with a second offer for Galatasaray winger Garry Rodrigues in the January transfer window.
According to Turkish reports, the Magpies were desperate to acquire the 27-year-old’s services ahead of the rest of the season but Galatasaray remained determined to keep hold of the wide man.
Newcastle have long been linked with the Cape Verde international and it’s claimed that a bid worth in the region of £7 million was made in an attempt to persuade Galatasaray to sell Rodrigues.
However, it’s understood that the club’s manager Fatih Terim was adamant that the former Feyenoord youngster should stay in Turkey until the end of the season at least.
The Magpies endured a difficult transfer window and Rafa Benitez was unable to conclude many of the deals he had hoped for, largely down to the lack of funds available to him.
Rodrigues was seemingly a target, though, and Newcastle could yet return for the Dutch-born winger in the summer.
