Newcastle United are claimed to have made attempts to sign Lovro Majer from NK Lokomotiva in the January transfer window.
According to a report from Italian news outlet Calciomercato, the Magpies ‘tried’ to pursue a deal for the Croatia international, with the club keen to bolster their attacking options in the mid-season window.
It’s stated by Calciomercato that extensive negotiations were held between Newcastle and the Croatian outfit, with a deal on the table said to be worth in the region of €15-18m.
Discussions appeared to be progressing well over a deal for Majer, however, it seems that the finer details of the deal could not be agreed on and Newcastle will be forced to wait until the summer if they opt to revisit their move for the 20-year-old.
However, if Rafa Benitez’s side are to move in for Majer in the summer, they will face competition from Sampdoria. The Serie A side are said to have expressed a huge interest in the young playmaker.
