Newcastle United and Crystal Palace are reportedly negotiating a deal for defender Pape Souare.

According to talkSPORT presenter Geoff Peters, discussions between the two Premier League clubs have been held regarding a deal for the left-back this month.

Souare is currently out of favour at Palace and it seems he is surplus to requirements at the moment. Although Jeffrey Schlupp is currently out with an injury, fellow left-back Patrick van Aanholt is a preferred choice on the flank of defence.

Newcastle are currently somewhat short of options at left-back. Paul Dummett is a natural in the position but Javi Manquillo, who has been deputising on the left in large parts of the season so far, is a right-back by trade.

Souare is now fully fit having recovered from a broken leg he suffered in a car accident, and would bring an experienced head to the Newcastle squad, with all parties involved said to be keen.
