Ayoze Perez fired Newcastle to their second consecutive away win to send the North East side to 13th in the Premier League.
Perez was assisted by Jacob Murphy’s brilliantly-executed low cross, meaning the Spaniard only had to keep his composure and tap home.
Newcastle started off the brighter side, as Christian Atsu’s first-time strike forced Jack Butland to save with his legs 14 minutes in.
Newcastle continued to threaten the Stoke goal, but with no luck of converting – Ciaran Clark this time launched the ball over the bar from only two-yards out.
Stoke got the second half underway promisingly, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting forced Karl Darlow to tip over his curling effort that was destined for the top-right corner.
But it was Newcastle who broke the deadlock 73 minutes in. Jacob Murphy carried the ball forward with pace and crossed the ball to Perez, who struck the ball down the centre of the goal.
Mame Biram Diouf looked to equalise for the home side on two occasions but was twice denied by Darlow from close-range, who pulled off two very good reaction saves.
But it was Newcastle who managed to hold on to all three points to fire them into 13th place in the Premier League, four points above the relegation zone.
