Henri Saivet went from villain to hero, as the Frenchman redeemed himself from sending Newcastle behind to helping to inspire a 3-2 win over West Ham.

Marko Arnautovic grabbed the opener for West Ham, the Austrian picked up on Saivet’s misplaced pass and managed to slot the ball past Rob Elliot.

But Saivet bounced back straight away, the midfielder curled a well-executed freekick over the West Ham wall, and into the bottom right corner.

Newcastle were then unfortunate to hit the woodwork twice in 15 minutes. Dwight Gayle slammed the ball off the crossbar before Matt Ritchie bent his strike off the far post.

The away side’s persistence eventually paid off 52′ minutes in. Christian Atsu skilfully danced past Pablo Zabaleta, and cut the ball back to Mo Diame who struck the ball into the top right corner.

Ciaran Clark was then given a penalty given against him for a foul on Andre Ayew. The Frenchman took the spot-kick, but it was saved by Rob Elliot down to his left.

Newcastle then doubled their lead on the counter-attack, following a West Ham corner. Joselu pulled the ball back to Atsu in the centre of the box, who swept the ball past Adrian.

West Ham grabbed one back with 20 minutes remaining, Aaron Cresswell’s corner picked out Andy Carroll whose header was saved by Rob Elliot, but was then tapped into the net by Ayew.

But it was Newcastle who managed to hold on to all three points, making it their first win in 10 games.

Below are the Newcastle player ratings for their crucial win over West Ham.
