Newcastle United Player Ratings: Watford (H)
Marco Silva’s Watford dominated at St James’ Park to condemn the Magpies to a fourth successive defeat.
Will Hughes opened the scoring for Watford on 18 minutes when Christian Kabasele played a long-range switch to find Marvin Zeegelaar on the left wing. The Dutchman then cut the ball back to Will Hughes who connected first time to sweep the ball into the bottom right corner, past Rob Elliott. Hughes has now scored 2 goals in a week, having not previously scored in the last 10 months.
Newcastle’s sorrows continued after a De’Andre Yedlin own goal doubled the Hornet’s lead, only moments before half time. Zeegelaar fired a low-driven cross from the Watford left, which then deflected off the unfortunate full-backs boot and into the near corner.
Watford’s dominance persisted into the second half, and they made it three just after the hour mark. Kabasele started the move again by clearing the ball long to Richarlison. The Brazilian then stormed down the wing, and crossed the ball to the unmarked Andre Gray, who slotted comfortably home.
The result leaves Newcastle 13th in the Premier League Table, 4 points above the relegation zone.
