Newcastle linked with loan move for Fernando Torres
Newcastle United and Southampton are both being linked with a surprise loan move for former Chelsea and Liverpool striker Fernando Torres.
The Mirror reports that the Spaniard is ready to leave his boyhood club in January and wants another spell in the Premier League.
The report suggests that the player’s representatives have alerted both Newcastle and Southampton about the striker’s availability.
Torres has fallen down the pecking order at Atletico with the likes of Antoine Griezmann and Kevin Gameiro in front of him.
Los Rojiblancos also have Diego Costa joining the club in January when their transfer ban is lifted, casting further doubt over Torres’ immediate future at the club.
Despite not playing much, Torres does not to leave Atletico permanently. The former Chelsea man wants to retire at the end of next season when his contract expires, but he wants to do that at Atletico Madrid, regardless of whether or not he is getting regular first-team football.
