Newcastle’s striking problems this season have really shown on the pitch.
Dwight Gayle has failed to reproduce what he was able to do in the Championship. The 28-year-old has failed to even score so far this season, with other strikers also producing poor numbers.
Spaniards Joselu and Ayoze Perez scored once in the league, with Aleksander Mitrovic having one despite not making a start so far.
Additions are desperately needed in January if Newcastle are to survive in the Premier League this season. Goalscorers win you games, and with no Newcastle player scoring more than two so far this season, the Magpies are in real trouble.
Targets do exist though throughout Europe and closer to home in the Premier League and Championship.
Here, we look at some of the players that Newcastle could possibly look at signing in the January transfer window to help them survive in the Premier League.
Jonathan Kodija
Although he has struggled to make appearances for Villa this season, Kodija was lethal in the Championship last season. His pace and finishing ability is superb, and he would certainly offer lots to the Newcastle attack.
Cenk Tosun
Besiktas’ Cenk Tosun is reportedly one of Rafa Benitez’ January targets. The Turk has had a fantastic start to the season in both domestic football and in Europe. Besiktas look set to get out of their Champions League group as the winners.
Danny Ings
Liverpool outcast Danny Ings’ Injury history isn’t pretty reading. However, the former Burnley man does have an eye for goal, when fit, and could do the business for Newcastle.
Islam Slimani
Leicester’s Islam Slimani is reportedly looking for a way out of the King Power Stadium. The Algerian hasn’t had the greatest of times in the East Midlands. However, a change of scenery could do him the world of good.
Charlie Austin
Charlie Austin has found himself as an outcast at Southampton. The former QPR and Burnley striker could be available on a cheap deal from Southampton.
