Benitez looking to move for left-back and striker in January
Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez is looking to make signing a new left-back and striker his priority when the January transfer window comes around, according to the Northern Echo.
The Magpies did not enjoy a largely successful summer and despite signing a number of new first-team players, failed to really recruit as well as they would have liked.
However, Benitez is looking to put this right in January, and in an ideal scenario, it looks as though he will target two specific areas of the pitch to strengthen.
First choice left-back Paul Dummett suffered an injury in the opening day defeat to Tottenham Hotspur which has kept him out for a while now. This has led to Chancel Mbemba, a centre-back by trade, deputising on the left.
In terms of strikers, Benitez is well stocked, but is understood to be keen on adding more quality to his attacking ranks. Summer signing Joselu has been given the nod since his arrival from Stoke.
Talk of a takeover continues to surround St James’ Park, but it looks as though Benitez knows what he wants from the upcoming transfer window.
