Newcastle United have confirmed that club captain Jamaal Lascelles has signed a new six-year contract.

The central defender has been in superb form for the Magpies this season, and has contributed already with two goals. He has been a mainstay for the club since Rafa Benitez’s arrival and will now look to kick on in Newcastle colours.

Lascelles has established himself as a key member of Benitez’s squad, and has led his side well since being appointed as the club captain.

Since being integrated in the 2015/16 season following his move from Nottingham Forest in 2014, Lascelles has grown into a fans’ favourite at St James’ Park, and the commitment for the next six years of his career will only heighten this relationship.

Lascelles will now look to help Newcastle achieve a strong finish in the Premier League following a positive start.
