Newcastle will be looking to bounce back to winning ways on Sunday afternoon when Liverpool visit.
Rafa Benitez’s men have enjoyed a considerably positive start to the Premier League campaign, and will undoubtedly be itching to claim a scalp over the Reds at St James’ Park.
Newcastle come into the game off the back of a 1-0 defeat away to Brighton last week, whereas Liverpool will be looking to get back to winning ways following a 1-1 draw at Spartak Moscow in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Benitez hasn’t changed much in terms of personnel since the start of the season, but could look to alter his approach against a team with as much attacking quality as Liverpool.
So, without further ado, let’s take a look at how Newcastle are expected to line up!
GK - Rob Elliot
Elliot is a mainstay in the Newcastle goal.
RB - DeAndre Yedlin
Yedlin is likely to start on the right hand side of defence.
CB - Jamaal Lascelles
The ever-dependable Lascelles will captain the side.
CB - Ciaran Clark
Clark is set to partner Lascelles as usual.
LB - Chancel Mbemba
Mbemba is likely to retain his place at left-back.
CM - Mikel Merino
Merino has been fabulous for Newcastle and will start.
CM - Isaac Hayden
Hayden has been consistent this season and is likely to keep his place.
CM - Jonjo Shelvey
He bounced back from suspension with a good display against Brighton off the bench. I can see Benitez switching to a three-man midfield in an attempt to stifle Liverpool’s creativity.
RM - Matt Ritchie
Ritchie will start out on the right. He is going to be key for Newcastle’s hopes of getting anything out of the game.
LM - Christian Atsu
Atsu is set to be preferred to Ayoze Perez on the wing.
ST - Joselu
Joselu needs to step up, but is expected to be given the nod against Liverpool.
