Newcastle are set to miss out on Preston defender Adam Earl, as he is set to sign a new deal with his current club.

According to The Daily Star, Earl has agreed a new contract at Preston to secure his long-term future at the club.

The report claims that Newcastle and Leeds United were eyeing up a potential move for the defender.

The 18-year-old has played four Championship matches for Preston this season, catching the eye of those at Newcastle.

However, it looks as though Rafa Benitez will not be bringing him further north anytime soon with Earl set to commit his future to Preston.

The report claims that Liverpool, Brighton and Bournemouth have also sent scouts to watch Earl.

The fullback is now set to sign a three-year deal with Preston and allay any fears they had about losing him in the January transfer window in a few months time.
