Fulham set to make January approach for Newcastle man
Fulham are reportedly preparing a fresh approach to sign Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle.
It’s claimed in the printed edition of the Mirror, as cited by HITC, today that the Cottagers will make another move for the former Crystal Palace man in the January transfer window.
Reports suggested that Fulham made a late swoop to land Gayle in the summer, but failed in their attempts to land him as Newcastle attempted to recruit a replacement before sanctioning the sale.
The Magpies were keen throughout the summer to sign Lucas Perez from Arsenal, but with the Spaniard having secured a move back to Deportivo, Rafa Benitez was unable to obtain his primary striking target on the final day of the window.
Gayle netted 23 goals in the Championship last season and was a pivotal part of their return to the Premier League. Despite this though, it looks as though the Magpies will still aim to offload him in January.
