Newcastle to move for £8 million rated Vidar Orn Kjartansson
Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle United could make a swoop for £8 million rated Icelandic international Vidar Orn Kjartansson, according to a report in the Daily Star.
Newcastle reportedly sent scouts to watch Kjartansson when he scored during Maccabi Tel Aviv 1-0 win over Rheindorf Altach in the Europa League.
Kjartansson was the league’s top scorer in Israel last season as he netted 15 goals for Maccabi Tel Aviv and he has since attracted a host of interest from the Premier League and the Championship.
Kjartansson came close to securing a move to the UK four years ago after he had a trial with Celtic.
However, the 27-year-old decided to join Norwegian side Valerenga instead, where he finished as the league’s top scorer with 25 goals in 29 games.
Kjartansson only joined Maccabi Tel Aviv a year ago from Swedish side Malmo but the Israeli side could be tempted to sell him on after only paying £3 million for him last summer.
