Newcastle keen on Napoli man
Newcastle United are reportedly exploring the possibility of signing Napoli goalkeeper Rafael.
According to reputable Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the Brazilian is one of the goalkeepers under consideration for the Magpies as they continue to search for a new first choice ‘keeper.
The 27-year-old is very much a backup option under Maurizio Sarri at Napoli, with experienced Spanish goalkeeper Pepe Reina the preferred option.
Rafael made just two appearances for Napoli last season, and could be keen to seek first-team football elsewhere should an opportunity present itself in the near future.
However, if Newcastle are to secure the services of the experienced shot stopper in the remaining weeks of the window, they may need to fend off competition from elsewhere. Di Marzio claims that Benfica have been hot on Rafael’s trail for a few weeks now, and are pondering a move.
Rafa Benitez is keen to upgrade on the options at his disposal, and Rafael would go a long way in doing that.
