Uruguay international keen on Newcastle switch
Newcastle United are interested in signing Bordeaux striker Diego Rolan, with the forward turning down Championship club Fulham as he is keen on a move to St James’ Park this summer, according to a report on the Northern Echo.
The 24-year-old Uruguay striker seemed on the verge of signing for Fulham after both clubs agreed a £5m price but the striker turned down the move.
French club Bordeaux were happy with the terms but Rolan wants to play in the Premier League with Newcastle.
The Magpies are now considering an offer for Rolan, who will be available for about £5m with Bordeaux ready to sell the striker.
Rolan was in good goalscoring form last season in Ligue 1 as he managed to get his name on the score-sheet ten times from 33 appearances in the first team.
Newcastle striker Daryl Murphy is set to leave the club and join Nottingham Forest for £2m this summer, so manager Rafa Benitez needs to add a striker to his squad.
Benitez has just secured the services of Jacob Murphy this week from Norwich and is still keen to improve his attack for the upcoming season.
Rolan can score goals and is also motivated to play for the club, which is always a positive.
