Newcastle target wants to retire at current club
Newcastle target Pepe Reina reportedly wants to retire at Napoli and is targeting a new deal with the Serie A club.
Football Italia reports that the player is keen to stay with Napoli for two more seasons and then move into an off-the-pitch role at the club when he hangs up his gloves.
The sticking point for Reina is that Napoli are currently only prepared to offer a one-year extension.
Reina had been linked with a move to the Premier League this summer to work with Rafa Benitez again, but with the Magpies also interested in Willy Caballero, that now appears unlikely.
The 34-year-old’s current contract expires in 2018 but Reina has no intention of leaving Naples.
Despite his age, Reina was a mainstay as Napoli’s number one last season, making 48 appearances in all competitions.
He would often come under scrutiny in Italy but performed admirably as the club’s main goalkeeper.
