Newcastle target is open to a return to England
Spanish goalkeeper Pepe Reina says he his open to any possible Premier League return after reports suggested that he could be linking up once again with his former Liverpool and Napoli manager Rafa Benitez at Newcastle.
The 34-year-old has turned down a new contract at the Serie A club as he looks for pastures new and as per a report in the Chronicle, he’s open to a return to England.
It is well-known that Reina respects his fellow countryman as under his management, he has picked up an FA Cup and a Copa de Italia. The World Cup winner would be a great signing for the Toon with his excellent shot stopping skills and his fantastic distribution.
Many Geordies may argue that they do not need another goalkeeper with Karl Darlow in the ranks but Reina’s experience will help the 26-year-old develop by providing some healthy competition.
The only thing putting the St James Park side off is Napoli’s asking price of £5 million for a player who only has one year left to run on his current contract.
