Newcastle battling for Tammy Abraham signature
Newcastle United are battling with fellow Premier League new-boys Brighton and Hove Albion for the signature of Chelsea star Tammy Abraham after both clubs were given permission to speak to the striker, according to the Telegraph.
Chelsea are hoping to secure Abraham on a new long-term contract before loaning him out again next season.
Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez was quick to make a move for the forward, who scored 23 goals for Barnsley in the Championship this season.
His goalscoring form has attracted many European clubs but Chelsea have made it clear that he will not be sold permanently, as they see a future for him at Stamford Bridge.
Newcastle boss Benitez is looking to add firepower to his strike force before they begin their Premier League campaign. He already has in-form Dwight Gayle at his disposal but is adamant to add another forward to increase competition for the starting position.
Abraham proved this season that he has a natural eye for goals and his instinct in the box is predatory, something which Benitez craves this transfer window.
It is thought that Brighton are leading the way for the forward’s signature but Benitez is not giving up on a loan deal.
