With Newcastle securing their promotion to the Premier League on Monday night, we can begin to think about next season.
Newcastle will be competing to retain their place in the top-flight next season and will need to improve their squad in order to do so.
Rafa Benitez is going to need to get the right players in to give them the best chance of survival and avoid relegation.
If you look at the likes of Burnley and Hull this season, they recruited well and both look set to steer clear of demotion to the Championship.
Bournemouth and Watford did the same the year before, and Newcastle need to follow suit.
It is not always about how much you spend, but who you spend it on. Newcastle need to be shrewd in the market this summer.
So, here are some players Newcastle should target if they want to have a successful Premier League season.
Lukasz Fabianski
With Swansea looking set for relegation from the Premier League, Fabianski could be looking to jump ship.
He has been one of few Swansea players to impress this season and would jump at the chance to return to the Premier League.
Ben Gibson
Much like Swansea, Middlesbrough look like they will be playing Championship football.
But don’t be fooled by a relegated centre back, as Boro have the best defensive record in the bottom half of the table.
Gibson would be a big improvement on Ciaran Clark without a doubt.
Jay Rodriguez
Rodriguez has already been linked with a move to Newcastle, having fallen down the pecking order at Southampton.
The striker could be available on a season-long loan.
Charlie Taylor
Out of contract in the summer, Taylor would be an excellent option and would come as little cost – through a tribunal.
Ivo Pinto
Pinto has been previously touted with a move to Newcastle and a right-back is an area for improvement for the club.
Could be a cheap, and effective, option.
Chris Wood
Top scorer in the Championship this season with 25 goals. Would take a bit of money to prize him away from Leeds, but he would surely be tempted by Premier League football.
Kevin Malcuit
Another fullback, and another that has already been linked with the club.
The right-back could be available for £8m and would be able to fill the need for a right-back this summer.
Tom Cairney
If Fulham fail to win the play-offs, Cairney could be an excellent option for Newcastle to pursue.
Cairney has been excellent this season for Fulham in the Championship and would add a different dimension to Newcastle’s midfield options.
