Newcastle identify their summer priority signing
Newcastle United have made Fulham’s Tom Cairney their number one target for this summer and will look to work on a bid to get him if they seal promotion back to the Premier League.
The Magpies need just three points from their remaining three games to secure promotion at the first time of asking and they’ll be hoping to get them when they face Preston North End this evening.
If Newcastle do get the win that they need, manager Rafa Benitez can get to work on improving his squad this summer and, according to Darren Witcoop of the Mirror, he’ll look to make a move for Cairney.
The 26-year-old has been one of the best midfielders in the Championship this season and Fulham will be keen to keep hold of him. They too have a chance of getting promoted via the playoffs but if they fail to get back to the top flight, they might find it difficult to keep hold of the Scottish international.
