NUFC Target Refuses To Play
Carlos Carvalhal has reacted angrily to speculation linking Fernando Forestieri with Derby County and Newcastle United. The 26 year old Italian was scintillating for Wednesday last season, scoring 15 and creating 39 chances in 38 games.
Wednesday are in a position to reject any bid Newcastle make, however the player refused to participate in the Owls 0-0 draw with Norwich City.
Carvalhal told The Star
The chairman doesn’t want to sell any player. That’s what he has told me. I can’t tell you more than this. Fernando has a contract for three years. He belongs to us. We don’t want to sell any player. He trained as normal in the week and played very well. When we were ready to go to the bus, he refused to travel.
BBC Radio Derby’s Ed Dawes broke the news indicating Newcastle United had gone in with an offer of £12-million.
Twitter: Conversations I’ve had indicate that.. Newcastle have offered £12m for Fernando Forestieri of Sheffield Wednesday. #dcfcfans (@Ed_DawesBeeb)
Forestieri could be a great addition to Newcastle’s starting eleven, let alone the squad. His direct nature, pace and technical ability would easily plug the gap left by Gini Wijnaldum’s departure to Liverpool.
Derby County are also said to have made a bid of £7-million for the former Watford man.
