Benitez agrees to stay on at Newcastle
Newcastle will reportedly confirm Rafa Benitez as their permanent manager later today, according to the Northern Echo.
After failing to save Newcastle from the drop, there were doubts over his future at St James’ Park, but the former Real Madrid manager is set to put pen-to-paper on a three-year contract as he targets an automatic return to the Premier League.
Benitez will reportedly gain full control of transfer matters at the club, with chief scout Graham Carr expected to leave.
When he initially joined earlier in the season, he had a clause inserted into his contract, allowing him to leave should the club go down, however, the Spaniard has had his head turned by the overwhelming support of the Newcastle fans.
He had since been linked with the vacant Everton job, as well as the Spanish national side, but has decided to take the plunge into the unknown by remaining at Newcastle in the Championship.
