Steven Taylor
Once the golden child of England’s future defence, Taylor has suffered with horrendous injury problems. The local lad is known more for his passion than his quality defending.
Taylor has been with the club since 2003.

Why we’ve included Basong we don’t know. The Cameroon international is one of the most hated players on Tyneside following his swift exit after the club was relegated.

Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa
Yanga-Mbiwa arrived with much fanfare from Montpellier having captained the French side to the Ligue 1 title. He never settled on Tyneside and his inconsistent performances lead to his exit. It didn’t help that he was played out of position all too often.

Andy O'Brien
One of Newcastle’s better defenders since 2000, O’Brien was another who scored against Sunderland, his equaliser sent the fans into a frenzy. His performances for NUFC earned him a call up to the Republic of Ireland squad.

Aaron Hughes
The second most disciplined player to ever appear in the Premier League, Hughes was never sent off. With a first team debut coming in 1999 at the Camp Nou.

Sylvain Distin
He only spent one season on Tyneside but he’s remembered as one we should have kept. His decision to join Manchester City instead of the Magpies was based on which position he would be playing.

Having joined Newcastle United’s academy with his brother Gary, Steven was the only one of the two to make a first team appearance. He moved to Sunderland following his release.

Iron Mike! A man who’s Newcastle career will forever be remembered through John Carver’s post match interview against Leicester! Williamson’s best season was the 2013/14 season with fans even calling for the now Wolves man to go to Brazil.
